Lakeland Region Pipers and Drummers
LAKELAND PIPE & DRUM BAND is the latest of many bands that were active in the Vermilion area dating back to pre-World War II times. There had not been an active band in Vermilion itself for over fourty years but many of the current members had played for some time with the Wainwright Legion Pipe Band.
Formed in the year 2000, Lakeland Pipe and Drum Band played its first parade at the Clandonald fair, with our founder P/M George Reid and six original members. Shortly after being formed, the band applied for Society status under the name of Lakeland Pipers And Drummers Association, and received grant money in the amount of $9100.00 to buy equipment. From there the band grew in size and plays at parades in many communities surrounding Vermilion. The band performs at other events such as Robbie Burns dinners with many of the members doing solo performances at weddings, funerals, mess dinners, curling bonspiels, school activities and Remembrance Day services.
